Good bag by S2 and very good Next call by S1. If S1 had passed in the 2nd round that would be very bad euchre. Can't pass up 8-5 when you block no suits, so I give S1 props for calling Next. With no clear path to this garbage hand might as well call Next and hope to get lucky, and the trump lead was standard. HOWEVER S1 still made a mistake in this hand. Becuz S1 has no 2nd rd hand, up 8-5 he should be donating with 1 trump + an off ace vs any upcard. If S1 had a 2nd rd hand I'm ok with him passing with 1 trump + an Ace up 8-5 in the first round and gambling their opponents don't "have it" on a 9C upcard. Having no 2nd rd hand changes things imo. When you're still very likely screwed even in the best case scenario--S2/S4 passing--might as well donate at that score. BTW donating at 8-5 is probably more advantageous than donating at 9-7. When you donate at 8-5, you ensure that the worst case scenario for your team is up 8-7 on your deal (66% equity), when you donate up 9-7 you lock in 65% equity for your team.
