Friday Night Euchre Hands #1-5

Unread post by Tbolt65 » Sat May 01, 2021 1:53 am

Here are some recent hands taken from Friday Night Euchre 4-30. For those that have been following the recent threads about two trump and Off ace from Seat 2 position and Dealer. Here is some data that address theses hands in game situations.

Hand 1 Two off aces and two trump no bauers from the Dealer Seat.

I have said I don't necessarily agree with these hands being orders but if you want to do them in scenarios that dont hurt your team or for game winning situations. I am ok with that. Sparingly to cut down on point leakages. Because doing these calls all the time I maintain can be costly, especially in good/tough games.

Standard call. S3's bold bag pays off. That said, if S3's P is not always calling something in Rd 2 veering towards Next when he doesn't block reverse Next, this bag will not be +EV. One has to have a lot of trust in their P to "make money" on this play. This is certainly a hand (S3's) I wanna test soon.

Hand 2 Two trump, off ace from the dealer spot.

I believe this call will be +EV but I'm not certain. Another hand I gotta test. The dealer discarded incorrectly however.

Hand 3 Two trump and one off ace from Seat 2

With no voids this is probably a -EV call (Another hand I gotta test) that S2 should not be making down 0-2. This is the kind've call I have certainly been making but now I think I need to eliminate this one from my game. Recent samples on other better hands suggests this hand won't make the +EV cutoff.
That said, this is still a call I will be making all the time on the app or in real life with P's I can't trust (which means like 99% of P's out there). Why? Becuz I'm not convinced it's -EV with P's who pass biddable hands. Also, just becuz this call is -EV doesn't mean S2 should not be making this call quite often in a tough game. Obviously in any close out spot like being up 9-5, this is a MUST call by S2, but perhaps even up 4-1 this is a call. Blocking no suits, up 3+, the insurance is probably worth it with a "best I got" 2 low trump + singleton green Ace + no voids, slightly -EV hand.

Hand 4 Dealer With Two trump and 1 off ace

I think it's a +EV call but I have to test it to be sure. I don't like the dealer's discard tho. When one has the choice between discarding the QC or the QH, it is more advantageous for the dealer's team if he voids himself in the longest suit. So get rid of the QH not the QC.

Standard call. Can't pass that hand in a close out spot. Even if it was -EV it wouldn't matter. It's a must call for S2.

Bagging like Hand 1 is really bad euchre. And in the long run, you lose doing that. JS JC KS.

Yes that is correct (did it on purpose) I said to myself, one time try Leffty discard. BAD DISCARD. Luck has it, it made no difference on this hand.

The hand 1 bag I'm actually ok with, if done for the right reasons. Since we don't know who it is, we can't ask them why they did bag, what was their line of thinking? It would be good insight to know though. I would agree that it would be a bad bag, if done for the wrong reasons. The score is 7-7 and a euchre would make it 9-7 for the bagging team and their deal. That would be highly advantageous if it worked out they could get that euchre.

As a follow up to that Irishwolf. My line of thinking is that this would be bad in normal situations most of the time. If I were to be the bagger here I would have to be pretty certain on my partners ability to make a call, whether it be next or something else. If Seat 1 does pass twice. It's likely they have blockers and Seat 2 potential red call would most likely steal a point away from what looks like to be a point if Seat 3 had ordered originally. That could be a costly point coming down the stretch with the score being 7-7.

Seems like out of these 5 hands, the two trump plus off ace seemed to be successful on the 9-3 score where seat 2 assisted. A hand I favor in calling at that situation. However I do not favor any of the other four calls which happened to be all euchred as shown.
