Why the dealer didn't go alone here is beyond me.

Going Alone

Why would I go alone here from 4th seat when all I have is a loser, and the opposing team gets to lead, you're only making this on a prayer. This was not a loner hand, and the only reason it even got 2 points is that S1 held onto his Kd when the maker already showed he was void, making that a completely worthless card to keep. I'm much happier taking these sort of hands for 2 points than trying to win the lottery.

6-6, a good time to go in for the kill. Loner attempts with a weaker card of the same color of your trump suit often flies for the 4 points and in this case a win. Strictly guessing I'd say 1 out of 3 tries. I would tinker around for a 2 point march with this hand if the score was something like 7-2 or 6-1 us.

I strongly disagree with 33% odds, I would say 10% or lower, but I only have anecdotal evidence.justme wrote: ↑Mon Jun 14, 2021 11:33 pm6-6, a good time to go in for the kill. If it means anything, I would not have played alone either. I play for 2 here as well.
Also to answer another post in this string. If its ok to play for 2 at 6-1 or 7-2? Wouldn't it be just as or more beneficial to play for two and get to 8-6 a chance to win the game and still be in control of the game with a donate to give?

The hand in question is a loner from the dealer spot based on the best evidence we have at this moment which is from Eric Zalas' work in "Power Euchre Volume 5". According the Zalas, the dealer should be going alone with the above hand type any time they have a Jack loser or better. Since a Next 10 is equivalent to a green Jack, one should be going alone with the above hand also. Calling beats out going alone when your loser card is a green 9, green 10, and a Next 9. Otherwise going alone is best.

At a score such as 6-1, 7-2 I see the game as well under control and no need to press the issue. Only a conservative effort with a little usual reasonable luck from 8-1 or 9-2 is required to win. No hurry, a light clear to the end of the tunnel is in view. (My philosophy)
