Weekly games 12/21, fooling your opponents.

Experienced players are always looking for a way to euchre the other team. Often this includes not giving out more information or conversely giving the wrong information. Here west hides that he still holds the top trump. West just has to be sure this is done with absolutely no hesitation. Even the slightest delay would give away the hand.

IMO S1 needs to go alone here. Yes it's marginal, but S3 is not likely to help out S1's holding anyways and S1 will so rarely get euchred with this hand, it's worth a try. And with this type of holding, those rare times S1's loner attempt gets euchred S1 will often have gotten euchred anyways if he had just called. In a tough game where dealer loners are often blocked and where 2 seat/3 seat/4 seat 2nd round loners don't even get a chance to exist, passing up marginal but correct S1-R1 loner opportunities feels even extra costly.

Trying a lone call from first (S1) surely possible, but what I was trying to point out was the error players make when holding left-ace. It’s a common error that one should try to avoid.

I have been guilty of playing the wrong card in these situations.

Is the following a reasonable principle, play to hide information (the Jh in this hand) when on defense (opponents ordered) but play to communicate information when on offense (your team ordered)?

I agree dlan. Whether it be online or face to face. Quick play is indeed paramount.
