Table talk

Unread post by GeorgeM » Fri Sep 27, 2019 10:09 am

Hope this isn’t too basic a question, but I have searched everywhere online without finding a clear answer. We have a group that play tournaments regularly, and one member feels there is nothing wrong with telling his partner “it’s mine” when he feels his partner might over-trump a trick that is already his. I feel this is cheating, but the closest I can find to a rule is one site that indicates it is table talk to say anything to your partner with the intent to “prevent him from making a mistake”. I am very surprised there does not seem to be any site with clear guidelines regarding what is unacceptable table-talk.

Any opinions?

That scenario sure sounds inappropriate.

Generally speaking, table talk is anything that influences the way the hand is played. So the scenario that you described would absolutely qualify.

Technically it's table talk. I would agree. It falls upon the player to follow the cards. Although if the cards where arranged in a fashion as to not know the order or what was played. I think its fair enough to spread them out see from which opponent each card came from with out any verbal communication. Other wise if your partners just blurts out, It's mine partner. Its table talk.
