Potential Next Call

Unread post by jblowery » Tue May 02, 2023 12:16 pm

Basically wondering what the expected EV is for this common situation. I'm providing a specific example here but the exact cards aren't too important. The main point is that I have zero aces or jacks and 4-suited. Score is 0-0 and playing with excellent players.

Upcard is (Card_K-S) and dealer turns it down.

You're in S1 now holding (Card_K-C) (Card_Q-C) (Card_K-D) (Card_K-H) (Card_Q-S)

1) Do you call next or pass? I'm thinking EV is pretty close but probably slightly better to call next
2) What do you lead? I'm guessing it is better to lead one of your red kings.

What would you do?

I would pass this. You are likely getting Euchred here. The only reason to call that would be out of fear of your second seat opponent having a loner or praying that your partner has next. The chances of seat two making a loner in this situation would be extremely low.

Thanks. Is your reason for that statement that since you have a balanced hand, everybody else likely also has a somewhat pretty balanced hand?
