Choosing Seat Assignment

Unread post by SardineBreath » Tue Jul 20, 2021 6:42 pm

This seems very basic to me, but I had a guy on my gaming website insist he was right and I was wrong.

Situation: When playing Euchre ONLINE... if you are the first one assigned to the table.. I say sit in the dealer's seat OR 2nd seat because... I feel that the dealer and his partner have the advantage in terms of winning the game. The fact that the dealer gets to improve his hand by discarding a junk card ups our chances of winning the hand. This guy insists that sitting in first seat or third seat is advantageous for winning... then he proceeded to tell me how he plays poker in the casinos... and he wins more this way. The discussion went nowhere, and I said we needed to agree to disagree.

So euchre community...
What are your thoughts?
Is there an advantage to sitting in any particular seat before the game begins?

ty for your input.

The dealer's team has the clear advantage, seeing as the dealer has around a 75% chance of making a point, with the ability to discard a card and create a void. That is why the dealer is either random (if playing online) or decided by dealing out cards to all the players until a black jack appears, the player dealt the black jack is awarded the dealer's position to start the game.

Well said, and I agree with everything you said.
One clarification: on my gaming website, you have the ability to CHOOSE your seat... it is not assigned. The dealer is always in the same seat location for the 1st round of play. If it is a tourney, you are assigned a table and you choose your own seat (again, the dealer is always in the same seat location for the 1st round of play.) If you are not in a tourney... you still have the ability to choose your own seat and table (and again, the dealer is always in the same seat location for the 1st round of play.)
ty for responding.

This guy is NUTS ...
Anytime you are the dealer you have 65 to 70% advantage of scoring a point (statistically speaking). About a 5% better chance to win if you score a point and 10% for a sweep and 85 to 90% chance if you score a loner.

So ask him or her what is basis for saying such a dumb thing!
