R1S2 Order or pass

Unread post by Richardb02 » Sat Mar 27, 2021 12:36 pm

Score 5-0, your favor
Average, actually weak opponents and partner
(Card_A-D) Up Card
(Card_9-C) (Card_J-C) (Card_Q-C) (Card_10-D) (Card_Q-D) Seat 2
I evaluate the hand as 1 factor above breakeven, BPS=2.75. EVo=+.13
Defensively, I have nothing to block a Next Loner.
Score, IMO, tilts towards ordering to block a Loner.
I ordered.
Comments?
Edit: I added Seat 2

Playing defensively is the dealears responsibility. You order here from s2 and you'll be ruining loners too much. Rather enough times you hurt your teams +4 making opportunities.

However with this being a weak player. Their is virtually no chance they will self donate or call with a very weak hand. I personally usually just pass here. Often enough with weak players you will be getting to call s2r2 majority of the time. So I say dont over think or out think the situation in this case. Just pass.

With that hand from S2 seat, you have 1 trick most of the time. If you trump an ace, what will you do for trick 2? You certainly can't let an ace go. So now you lead from three? Setting up your partner for a Euchre, I say! You have to look at each and every hand, where am I going with a five card strategy?

But let's come back to your hand vs the dealer. I agree with Ed, this is the Dealer's responsibility, not S2. It is a Partnership, don't try and play the Dealer's hand from S2. Just my opinion on that!

And now for another question to ponder:

Loners average about 5% (fact) , that is about 1 in 20 hands.

If you donated 20 times, 40 points. But what if you leave it alone? Just for fun, but statistically, 15 times opp will score 1 point; 4 times 2 points & 1 time 4 points. That sums to 27 points vs 40 points for donating (any hand).

So, more fun, let’s change the scenario, to 2 loners (8 pts), 5 sweeps (10 pts), and 13 @ 1 pt for a total of 31 points. Still not there (40 pts)!

So now change the loners to 4 (16 pts) 5 sweeps (10 pts), & 11 @ 1 pointers for a total of 37 points, almost there.

So throw in two more sweeps: 4 loners (16 pts), 7 sweeps (14 pts), and 9 @ 1 point = 39 points. We are still one point shay of 40 points for donating.

IT WOULD HAVE TO BE ONE HELL OF A STRING OF BAD CARDS NOT YOUR WAY!

I think, way too much emphasis on defending against loners & sweeps, just my opinion. Sweeps don't count, 0 to 0 and who knows what that opponent might pass-pass. You have to wisely, choose those donates, IMO. If you don't know what you are doing, keep quiet is a word to the wise!
