The two plays I could have or would have made here is either lead club or hearts. Both have merits as to why pick one or the other but Leading trump here into the dealer and un protecting your left as a defender is not a play one should make with the current hand make up.

North should not have thrown the left on trick 2. The King would have been a better play. He had no idea where the right was and should have tried to get either his opponent or partner to play the right and thus promoting the left to boss.

Yep. That was a critical error by North. While there are plenty of examples where one should NOT play under with R+1 on defense, I seriously can't think of one example with L+1 (Left-Ace doesn't count and neither does playing over from a L-King combo when the Ace of trump has been led or a similar equivalent).
Another additional error: Once South wins the trick with this Right he need to double lead the maker with the Qc and put him in a squeeze. From South's perspective it's still possible for the maker to have the KD and North to have the AD. Always go for the euchre.
