Weekly Games - At 9-9 passing is not an option.

At a score of 9 to 9, the last thing you want is your opponents dealing the cards. Unfortunately, most times this is out of one’s control. That was the case here. The dealer turned up the ace of clubs. To everyone’s surprise, the naming of trump went into the second round.

The outcome of the game would be decided on this hand, and a pass here surely would give the game away. Experienced players understand the reason clubs wasn’t called, was simply put, neither opponent had any strength in black. Now the pressure was on first seat. There was only one logical call, and that was spades. The challenge was to play the hand correctly.

Going under the assumption that seat 3 (the partner) had the right, first led the spade nine. As it turned out, the dealer had the right and over trumped the partners left. The dealer led back the heart queen, first sloughed the diamond nine again giving the partner a chance to take the trick. Once again, he was unable to help. Having taken the heart trick, second seat leads the diamond queen. This is trumped by the dealer, using their king.

As the opponents already had two trick, first had little choice but to over-trump with the ace. The club ace was the turn card, leaving the king as boss.

That game broke my heart. Glad it was the last hand of the night. I had nothing left to give anyways.

Now obviously if S2 leads a club instead of a diamond on trick 3 my team wins the game. But that's purely looking at the results. The question is, is there a logical non-results oriented argument for leading the club over the diamond or is this just one of those **** happens cases?

Of course to your question below: S4 passed clubs but the question is, does he have another trump? If he passed the AC having the JS, THEN OF Course the dealer is sitting on Next. And obvious is void in clubs as he turned down the AC. So clubs was the lead not diamonds by S2.

And does it make sense that S1 sloughed a diamond from a doubleton? And should the dealer not let that diamond slide as S1 will surely lead a club or a trump and might be void in diamonds. So let the diamond trick slide.

DOUBLE BOIL AND TROUBLE! THE CARDS THE CARDS THE CARDS, they tell a story!

Or is it the six blind men and the elephant?
