Slumps

Unread post by inglewoodjack » Mon Feb 17, 2020 10:19 am

Question for the board - how do you handle slumps?
Feels like I am in one right now. Not getting the cards, not calling enough, making stupid errors.
Do you take a break or play through it?

Never care about winning or losing becuz you don't actually have control over that. Train your mind to only care about what you CAN control--the decisions you make. Now I'm not saying don't be happy if you win or don't be a poor winner and talk trash. I'm all for that!! I'm just saying if you played a great game, didn't make any mistakes, but lose, DO NOT CARE.

You have one goal: maximizing correct decisions. That's all that matters, but recognize it's an ideal goal that can never be reached. Mistakes and stupid errors are going to happen, but the fun is in chasing the ideal. Also, remember you're still an extremely primitive, glitchy brained, carbon based life form. A dumb evolutionary mistake of a species that is busy right now destroying their home planet in the name of maximizing profits. IOW don't take yourself so seriously. If you make a "stupid error" get over it. You're only human.

All depends on if you're in the right state of mind. If you're not, definitely take a break. Nothing wrong with that. Breaks are necessary and good. Ease your mind. Listen to some great music:

I go both ways. Sometimes i'll take some time off if i feel like i'm just too frustrated or desperate to make good decisions. Other times I know i'll never get out of the slump if i'm not playing, so i keep going.

In the end, like Wes says, you can't worry about results, you can only worry about your decisions.

Focus on decisions. Great advice. That is the only thing that you can control. Thanks!

I've had this happen once or twice. Lost 20 games in a row because I was constantly dealt hands with three nines and tens... etc. It's statistically rare but play enough games and you'll have it happen. Wes gave the best thing to do. You have to play through it and make the best plays you can. Let's face it... we can discuss euchre strategies until we're blue in the face but you have to have the cards to win.
