Dealer 3 Low + Ace 2nd trick

Unread post by jblowery » Mon Jul 08, 2019 3:38 pm

This seems to happen a lot. I'm the dealer and after picking up I have something like this:

(Card_A-C) (Card_Q-C) (Card_10-C) plus (Card_A-H) (Card_10-S).

(Card_A-D) is led by the opposing team and I trump it with the (Card_10-C)

Question is what to lead now for the 2nd trick. I've typically been leading (Card_Q-C) in this situation but then my opponents typically win that trick with one of the bowers. Now its 1-1 and I'm in a marginal position because I only have the (Card_A-C) left with that ace. Is it better to lead the (Card_A-H) or (Card_10-S)?

You have no choice but to lead trump (QC) to the 2nd trick to draw trump from opponents. They then may lead to your off suit ace. If they lead to the 10s, you partner might have the ace or can trump it.

Not to lead trump, you just dig a deeper hole.

I agree with Irish wolf. Gotta lead trump now.

Generally three Trump with or with out a side ace. Lead it to make yours and your partners good down the road. Lead Trump that is.

With this particular hand, given that you have three trump, no bowers, and offsuit A, the trump Q is the best second lead. If you get euchred, your partner likely did not contribute and you can attribute the result to card distribution. You need trump cards out of the way for your offsuit A to increase its odds of winning a trick.
