3 Aces

Unread post by Nobilis » Thu Nov 24, 2022 11:44 pm

Every once in a while, but often enough, I come across this hand and I haven't read any tips about how to bid or pass on it. What is recommended that I do when I have 3 aces in my hand?

I was not really concerned about a discard. I was wondering what to do when I have a hand with 3 or 4 aces. It sounds like I should pass. Not unlike having 4 bowers.

It really depends on what you have in addition to those Aces. If you could have Right+1 and three Aces, you should call such a hand. You can't pass too often hoping to euchre your opponents. In the long term such a strategy will prove to be a loser.

Now that I have been playing Euchre enough to go back and comment on my original post, I have found that:
1) Holding a hand with 3 off-suit aces is a weak hand, so long as you are playing traditional Euchre. It is somewhat useful in playing defense, so long as the opposite team isn't loaded with trump, in which case, not.
2) However, if you are playing Euchre with a NT [No trump] bidding option, it is a great hand to have!

You would lead a Trump card ASAP when holding all of those Aces. The idea is to knock out the opponents Trump and make your Aces winners. Three offsuit Aces are great if they aren't getting Trumped.
