You sit in North. Clubs are trump and your partner has taken the first trick. He then leads back the ace of diamonds. What card do you play?

Absolutely I would not trump my partner's ace here. Although this post does not give enough information. It is incomplete as this does not say what the first trick was that the Dealer's partner won??? One could assume S1 led next and S2 trumped??? Got to have all the information when making decisions. Sure would be nice to say the up card as well and was the dealer the maker and what did he play to trick 1.

Even with incomplete information, what is the justification for NOT trumping the AD?
Dealer does not have the JC but largely because at worse case Dealer gets end position if opponent wins trick 2. He can still be euchred if he sloughs his off suit ace, but more difficult than if he trumps. First principle in Euchre is ensure you can score a point. Secondly, go for a sweep if you have the boss cards.

If he trumps what will he lead to Trick 3 ??? - most likely trump and getting euchred. Obviously, his partner does not have a trump to lead or is a poor player.

But if the Dealer had the Right - then YES trump his partner's ace and lead the JC to trick 3 for a possible Sweep.
